Blind Date

Today has been a very exhausting day, normally on a Sunday I will have a lie in (to catch up with my lack of sleep during the week) and do a little cleaning before sorting out rubbish for recycling. Then I tend to waste the rest of my day sat in front of the computer.

Of course today I had a date, you might call it a blind date but the fact is I had been talking to this girl(that sounds so wrong) woman for a little while via a well known dating site (I know sad that I am using a dating site). I have spoken to people online before and you normally get a good idea about them after only a short while – this woman was very different as it seemed very difficult to advance the conversation and it is only by talking that I feel you get to know about each other. It seems that she felt we were not "clicking" via our email exchanges so it was her idea to actually meet. I can understand her reasons – who wants to waste time and energy with someone that you may not have an interest it. So fair enough we planned to go to the cinema to see the Disney film Bolt (if I get a chance might talk about it more in the week).

The idea was that after seeing the film if we were stuck for something to say we could always talk about the film. Now I might be a bit old fashioned but I always thought that the man offered to pay, I understand that these days some woman may feel uncomfortable about this but I still think it is a nice thing to do. She however preferred to pay her own way. I would however make sure that in future you meet maybe for a quick drink before spending up to two hours in silence watching a film!!

Went for a walk along the beach afterwards and well it was interesting and it will be more interesting to see what happens next; after today I really don't think she would have "clicked" with me in fact I am almost sure of it as she hardly said anything and there were more than a few minutes of awkward silence – every time I asked a question to try to start a conversation she either hunched her shoulders and didn't answer or if she did answer it would kill the conversation and once again leave us walking along in silence with me racking my brain for something to say. Throughout the whole date she did not really ask me anything about myself, in fact as I have already mentioned she hardly said a word.

Okay she could have been "very" shy but even shy people know how to start conversations or at the very least can answer when questions are asked, it was not as if I was asking deep probing questions! Looking over things I would guess that in her mind she had already decided that we didn't click and had only suggested meeting to make sure. So now she has two options, either ignore me and wait for me to go away or let me know that we have not clicked and tell me to go away!!

I would be very surprised if she suggested meeting up again.

One Response to “Blind Date”

  1. Erin Says:

I hate moments like those, when you are trying to have a conversation with someone and it just doesn’t go anywhere. That happens occasionally at work and it is so awkward. Especially that silence when you are thinking of something else to say.

But at least you got to see a movie that was hopefully somewhat enjoyable.
