Steping into the past

What a busy few weeks, Easter was spent out and about with a trip to Devil's Bridge (photos and more about that at a later date) as I have not finished writing up those details yet. The week has seemed really short because of the extended holiday and I was off work yesterday as well so it will really take some getting used to working a full week again.

Had my first eye test last week, I had decided to go because for the last few weeks I had been suffering from bad headaches and thought as I am sat in front of a computer all day it would be worth checking them out. It would however seem that my eye sight is not to blame for my headaches but I have a feeling I know what the cause is anyway.

My mother has been clearing out her attic and much of the stuff up there is mine and I am sure much of it could actually be binned now as I had not really done a great deal of sorting out of the things that I put up there in the first place. I did find a file that had some old bank statements that don't really need to be kept any more.

Llanwinio ChurchSpent a little time working on my family tree, have over the last few months done quite a bit of research and have only just started looking in to my mothers side of the family. I had always known this would prove to be the more difficult area to look in to but speaking to my mother I was able to identify the final resting place of my great grandfathers, my mother had also mentioned that a gravestone had been erected a few years back.

So armed with some directions to the middle of nowhere I set off for Llanwinio church to find this grave and obtain further information to help me trace this section of the family. It really was a nightmare to get to the church as I hate driving down small country lanes but did eventually get to the church and following the instructions my mother had given I was quickly able to find the grave and gravestone.

I was rather disappointed at the lack of information on the gravestone but it was nice to actually go there and feel in some strange way a connection to a member of my family who had died way back in 1964, when my mother was still only a child. I think I can understand the reasons why my great grandmother who was raising my mother at the time would have left that isolated place and moved in to the newly built social housing in Carmarthen just a few short years after her husband had passed away. By some strange quirk of fate she was aged 53 when they moved and the number of the house she moved into was also 53!

Anyway I have ordered her birth certificate and will as soon as I can verify the date she got married I will order the marriage certificate which will hopefully give me more details on her husband and the search for his family can really begin.
