I really don’t know what has happened to the last few days they seem to have flown by which is a surprise as it has been so quiet at work. Thursday as I said we had snow and for one brief moment I thought it would be a free day as two of the three key holders were on a day off and the third lives in the middle of no where and was unlikely to turn up. Unfortunately the manager turned up and by that time my frame of mind was not in the gear for working.
Yesterday was the last day I will be working at “The BEDroom” (been there a year and never noticed that all the signs were like that with the capital bed) in reality I have not really worked there for the past week as there has been very little stock as well as customers so yesterday I just cleared up a little and took my certificates off the wall, I really thought I would feel upset about the department closing but in reality I am more upset about having to hand my staff card in and get issued with another one with is issued to sales people and does not have as many privileges. In the four and a half years I have worked for the company I have had many different staff cards (3 manager cards and 2 standard ones) but have never lost or misplaced one of them and the reason for this amount of cards is down to the fact that every time I have been given a managers card a few months later it has been taken off me against my will so this time I wanted to surrender the card before it was taken off me.

It really did snow on Wednesday night and when I went out yesterday morning and saw the streets covered with about four inches of snow I had a feeling that I would be getting the day off work. Unfortunately the manager managed to make it in later than normal so yet another boring day. How I wanted to be outside walking through the crisp fresh snow, oh well maybe next time.

I did have my camera with me and did take a couple of photos, nothing really special but I should be able to get them uploaded to my photo gallery soon. I am still hoping that it will be a clear day on Sunday, as I want to take some scenic photos in preparation for my photo CD that I have been planning for ages now.

It started to snow here yesterday and I am not sure who was more excited my mother or my younger brothers! Every time it started snowing my mother would be by the window shouting that it was coming down heavier and was sticking, needless to say it was nothing more than a small flurry that did give everything a white sprinkle. (Except I got up this morning to find everything covered so not sure if the people with keys will make it in to work today)

I did do some link checking yesterday and corrected a few of the links I had which were no longer pointing to the correct site and I hate to admit it but I stole someone else’s bandwidth, even though originally I was allowed to direct link the site. Maybe someone can tell me how I can check if someone is stealing my bandwidth? I also tried to visit some sites I used to visit and unfortunately many of them are no longer around which is sad but typical of the internet.

Taken me ages but I am very close to having a guest book installed (big wow) why such a simple thing is taking me so long to complete is pathetic and I really should pull my finger out and update and transfer my Wales site to this domain and get started on my movie related site, I will have quite a collective then.

The work being carried out on the old town bridge should have been completed in time for it to re open on March 1st but that looks very unlikely which is annoying as I will still have to drive the long way around and have to contend with idiots who have no idea of how to drive correctly. Major works are also being carried out on the roads leading to where I park my car every night so that is bound to cause some disruption.

It has been over two months since Kelly finished working with us and yet she still gets blamed for any problems, which occur, and admittedly she is responsible for quite a bit such as not completing paperwork correctly or not selling the correct goods. However at work the other day one of the invoices was completely missing and there was no record of it which is strange as there are three copies, one for the customer one as our working copy and one which is left in the invoice book. Suspicious people might think that a customer had paid cash for something had been given a receipt and the two remaining copies removed and destroyed before being entered on to the computer, of course there is no way of ever knowing but certain people think that Kelly was to blame - I have to admit that I think this is highly unlikely. Talking about Kelly, we have heard that she is indeed pregnant this time as another fellow ex employee has seen the scan photos, which she has of the baby (there was a little uncertainty when she said she was pregnant and subsequently had a miscarriage while working for us). The person who saw this scan photo was also someone who did not believe Kelly had been pregnant before so noticed that the scan image also had her name on, so very unlikely that she could have forged this. (Why anyone would want to is beyond me)

My pancakes were very nice last night, I was going to take a photo but to be honest I had eaten them before I thought about switching the computer on!

Been quite wordy with my entries the past few days, which is unusual for me. I am afraid very unlikely to continue as during March the library will be having some major work carried out and as a result will be opening a couple of hours later so I will not get my normal chance to access the net before going into work.

I have no idea what I will do after I finish on the computer, I am determined to get the CSI fanlisting up to date.
That is of course if the internet service comes back on at the library, it seems that it is down more often now an you can’t really complain as it is a free service.

What type of college student are you?

Yesterday was not much busier at work and if it carries on like this the area manager will come down and show us all how to sell, and you can guarantee any day that he turns up the store will be busy!

Went to Tescos last night to get a little shopping and could actually hear the starlings which they have nesting in a tree there, the only way I can describe it is like a scene from Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds, pretty scary. These birds have however been causing some problems as the bird mess on the pavements have made them slippery and combined with this the stench is unbearable, so the supermarket and the local council have tried various high tech means to get the birds to move on as they have become a health risk. First they tried a high pitched sound which failed to drive the birds away and then they installed a machine which plays random birds of prey calls this however did not have the desired effect and only caused the birds to get scared and drop more “bombs”.
They have decided the only way to get rid of the birds is to cut the tree down, seems a little extreme to me as the birds will simply have to move to another tree and become someone else’s problem!

While at the supermarket I did get some pancakes, much easier for me to buy them ready made as I really don’t have the space or time to cook my own and think I will have them tonight with the summer fruits and cream I also got.

I am starting to think about crossing off the United States off my holiday destination list with all these crazy people living in the woods! Of course I saw “Wrong Turn” last night so that may have had something to do with my change of mind. The film was very predictable but I enjoyed it and it was refreshing to see a horror film where the bad guy does not have super human indestructible powers.

It was so quiet at work over the weekend that may have been caused by a number of factors such as the new Pc World store opening in the town on Saturday and I have heard that there were crowds of people down there, or it could be that this is the first weekend since the linen department closed and that has effected the footfall, I find this less likely as it is very hard to sell a sofa to someone who has come into the store to buy a set of curtains. Maybe it was a combination of both these things along with the town bridge being closed and it not being wet and windy.

With my constant rants about work I forgot to mention that the Post Office up by my mother will be closing at the start of March due to a wide scale cutting back of rural Post Offices and I guess it shows how much Carmarthen has grown that Llangunnor is now not so much as a rural community but a part of the town. The people who run the Post Office also run the general store and I did wonder how they would be able to make any money once the Post Office section closed as it is not a great distance to one of the major supermarkets and I was told that they will close the general store at the same time, bit sad to hear this news as the shop has been there for as long as I can remember and once it has gone there will be nothing left!
Still I guess the people who run it know what is best and to get out now would be the sensible business thing to do instead of having to plough the money they get from the Post Office as redundancy to keep the general stores in business.

I mentioned before that I have been catching American Idol on ITV2 over here every Friday night (missed it last Friday but caught a repeat) and I have to admit that it does look a lot harder than the British version and unfortunately I missed the section that love about the British version and that is the audition section, especially when you get the people who honestly think they can sing but can’t! Some of the female contestant however are pretty.
I have noticed now that they are showing the selection process for the twelve final contestants that the glasses on the table with the judges have there logo blurred out and I was just wondering if this was the same when they show it over in America or does it have something to do with advertising laws in this country. However the glasses look just like the contour Coke Cola glasses!

It is bitterly cold here at the moment but I am not complaining as being cold means that there is very little cloud cover (can’t you tell I studied geography at school) and that makes for a fantastic view up at the heavens and last night it was a magnificent starry night and it is nights like this that I could just stand in the middle of a field and just look up and escape any stresses.

On average I get about eleven hits per day to this site, which I have to admit is no where near the number I would like and most of these visitors arrive at the site via search engines and not necessarily from people I know. The only way to change this trend has already been told to me ages ago and I know that I need to explore the net a lot more than I have to date as I have a very small circle of web sites that I visit on a regular basis.

Pancake day or Shrove Tuesday to give it its correct name and the day before lent begins on Ash Wednesday and I wonder how many people who will be eating there pancakes tomorrow will know the real reason for pancake day and that it is all about preparing for Lent and for going without certain foods and drink for 40 days and 40 nights. I might go and by some pancakes and get something to put in them for a change.

Another tiring few days and this was not helped by the fact that I hurt my shoulder on Tuesday and this was not helped by the fact that on both Thursday and Friday I had to lift and carry furniture so it has not really had the time to heal. The way things are at work not many of the staff actually lift or carry anything at the moment so me refusing to do any lifting for the next week or so would not go down well.

Why are people so stupid? I don’t really expect that question to be answered but at work as nearly all the beds have been sold I decided to move everything around and close off a section of the department. To close this off I used some barriers I had spare, which are about four foot high, and I plugged any gaps with other bits and pieces so goodness knows why I would be getting customers wondering around this section.

I spoke the other day about the area manager for the new bed concession was at the store interviewing for new staff (as I had decided not to transfer over) and have heard through the grapevine that he has hired a female manager to run the department, I am trying not to be stereotypical about these things but I do wonder how a female would be able to manage lifting and carrying beds and mattresses upstairs?

I should be off next Sunday and to be quite honest I can’t wait and really hope that the weather is good as I plan on making a start of getting some photos taken now that the days are starting to get a little longer and am quite annoyed that I have already missed some stunning sunset scenes.

I know that my room is not up to scratch when I worry about the landlord making a visit and yesterday morning I got this feeling when the fire alarm went off and I heard him outside in the corridor and all that was running through my mind was how messy the room was if he decided to come in and check that it was not anything in this room which was triggering the alarm. He did not so I should be thankful for that and also try and make sure that I clean as I go so that I never have to experience that feeling again. As you can imagine last night I cleaned my room, something that will take a lot longer than just a few hours to get it up to the highest standards but it will get there.

I think I will be keeping my mobile phone switched off today as I can almost guarantee that work will try and phone me with some sort of problem relating to the beds and to be quite honest I get so angry as the store manager always seems to speak to me as if I have done something incorrectly and that is why she is having to phone. She always apologises but she is not sorry about phoning me on my day off, it seems to be a way of her making a point. Well the Sunday working situation seems to have been sorted out as the other member of staff has agreed to work every Sunday and get two days off in the week and again this was something that the manager could not let pass without making some sort of point over and in this case it was to tell me that the this other member of staff would get two days off every week and not have to work any late night. Of course the only reason for telling me this was to get a reaction and I was not going to give her that satisfaction, it reminds me of something that Kelly told me that the manager had told another member of staff to make a comment about how good at selling Kelly was after only being with the company for a short period of time, knowing that at that time I was feeling very insecure about my position and I answered the comment in exactly the way they thought I would and were laughing about it on the shop floor.

To think that it is coming up to a year ago that I travelled down to Kent and went on the training course for the bedroom department and I do wonder how many of the others who attended the course with me are in a similar situation with there departments closing down, I know that Darren no longer works at the Basingstoke store and don’t think he has been there for some time now, whether he left on his own or was asked to leave is something I don’t know the answer to.

In fact when I left on Tuesday there were only three beds left to sell off display and tomorrow when I go in I will have to carry on with packing up the beds which have already been sold and also sort out anything which may have come to light today.

Not had much of a chance to work on any new content for the site this week which is a shame as a few ideas have struck me and I will look for some sort of program today which will help to create thumbnail images and clean my car out to look for my lead for my digital camera so I can get some images online in my new gallery.

Yesterday I did go on a little and forgot to mention that Becky has finished at work, in fact it was her last day on Thursday and in all the time I have been working for the company Becky has always been someone who always wants something extra and I can remember one instance when she thought she could have staff discount on already reduced stock - so it was rather fitting that she got a three piece leather suite with recliner chairs for just over £400 on her last day!

Saturday night I watched “Stand By Me” and even through I have seen the film before I still think it is a great film with a fantastic sound track and I felt that it was a moving story that I could relate to anyway (not that I went looking for a dead body when I was younger)

I was going to borrow “Wrong Turn” off my mother to watch last night as I am determined to cut back on my spending and looking back it is the DVD’s that I get that take up most of my money but it had already been loaned to my other brother so hopefully I will get it soon.

Another Sunday and another entry from me, as you can tell I was unable to get to a computer on Friday so this is the first opportunity I have had to post anything or check my emails. I am not going to fill this post with rants about work which I could quite easily do but basically the area manager came to the store on Friday and reduced the price of a lot of old stock and the beds and did a management review with the store manager. Unofficially I know that the manager will probably want to talk to me about my sales and I will need to increase the number of customers I badger into buying the aftercare service - which is what the company really cares about!

The area manager for the new bed concession was at the store last Thursday conducting interviews, as I decided to stay were I was they need all new staff to run the department and I did use the time he was at the store to talk to him a little, if nothing more than to reassure myself that I had made the right choice in not transferring over and as they say only time will tell. It does appear that what I was told was in fact true about there not being much staff and as I have said before there was no guarantee I would have been the manager. He interviewed two people and depending on what sort of person he is I would guess that the manager will be male with the sales assistant being female well I can live in hope!

So much for my plan to keep in better contact with my friends via email as it dawned on me the other day that I have not sent one email since before Christmas, I define an email as something more than just a quick hello so I am going to have to look into that and more importantly than just looking into things get emails sent

Hope everyone had a great Valentines Day yesterday and thought about the true meaning of the day “buying chocolates in heart shaped boxes and cards with fluffy animals on along with the dozen red roses” Of course I receive none of those but then again there is no one special in my life that I would give them to, yet!

My room is still a mess, I know I am putting it down to the fact that I have been working the past few Sundays and that is my usual cleaning up day but it really is starting to get bad when I have to climb over old newspapers (waiting to be taken to recycle bin) and other things which should have a place to live and not be cluttering up everything.

Someone has moved into the room next to me as it happens it is a bloke so much for me hoping that it would be some single woman, I only wonder how long it will take before the music starts blaring at all hours of the night but I would imagine the landlord would have told him about the previous two tenants of that room and what happened to them.

I have also found the time to continue working on my life story section, at the moment I am still writing it out and it is not online but I feel that I am making good progress and only have a little while to go before I can start writing about the early years of my working life at Littlewoods and ASDA looking back this is when I starting to change.

Still no news about the weekend away which was on offer in the newspaper and I am getting a little concerned about the length of time which has passed and only hope that we get some sort of idea about whether we are able to go to the selected park and on the selected date so that we can all see about getting time off work and organise transport. Confirmation did come back about the holiday to Spain in July so I am looking forward to that and as silly as it may sound I am proud of myself for actually going and not finding some excuse as to why I can’t go so who knows the next trip I go on may be a little further.

Some new channel will be available for my “Freeview” box whether I want these new channels as they do come at a cost and it is a monthly cost unlike the actual box which was a one off payment and gave me other channels that make it even harder to decide what to watch, I will most likely give it a miss at the moment as I am trying to cut back on my expenditure and these new channels on offer are not the ones that I really want anyway.

Managed to get a photo gallery installed on the site last week, which seems to be working and I will post the link as soon as I get some photos uploaded and hopefully I will be able to go out and get some new photos as I have bought some rechargeable batteries for my digital camera and only need to find the USB cable before I can get started.

This week we have stock taking and an audit at work add to that the new policy of staff having to be in work early I have no idea when I will next get the chance to post anything but should be online on both Monday and Tuesday evening

Not had a song of the moment for a little while and seeing as I have still not constructing my “Currently” list

Well my old disk is well and truly knackered so I was unable to get the entry I should have posted yesterday and had not even saved it on to my computer, basically I ranted a little about work and the fact that I would be unable to post as much as I have to arrive in work 15 minutes earlier than usual which means very little time to get online at the library so I shall post as and when I can.

Valentines Day is this Saturday and no doubt all the nightclubs will be playing romantic songs for all the couples that will be out. I suppose there are always various times of the year when being single can feel very lonely and this is one of those times. This is my third attempt to write an entry to post today the first attempt was a lot longer than this and was saved onto a floppy disk that the computers at the library refused to read so I quickly wrote up something else only for the internet connection to die at the library and with an unusable disk I could not save what I had written. I did try the disk when I got to my mothers house but there are some bad sectors, which cannot be repaired, and one of those sectors contained the file I am trying to access.

Oh well today has been a pretty decent day weather wise and as usual the local paper has the same amount of non news as it always does but it was interesting to see that the new bed concession has finally placed an advert for staff, I think they are leaving it a little late but did have a momentarily feeling of regret when I saw that they were advertising for a manager - my decision was made so no time for regrets and I don’t know if I would have been kept on as manager I would only have kept my pay!

There has been no pub quiz since before Christmas and because of the lack of interest it looks like it will be a while before it will restart, not that I am loosing to much sleep over this as they are showing the latest series of CSI on Tuesday nights at the same time as the quiz.

If I get the chance I will post my original entry tomorrow morning..

The shop was open on Friday and what an absolutely awful day, as soon as I got in I was told that the Swansea store had been dealing with a load of complaints about beds so from then on in it went down hill and cultivated in telling a customer that if she wanted a unit with cut glass I would smash the glass for her. I know I should not have done this especially as I was standing next to the manager but this customer was calling me a liar. Please don’t call me a liar and especially not when I have been working non stop for the past couple of hours moving furniture around and not getting the chance to do my own work.

On a lighter note this weekend has been pretty good on the eyes with the number of attractive females who have been into the store, the first one had been in before and because she was buying something using the credit facilities that we have I thought I would take a guess at her age. I am never very good at guessing how old people are especially women as I have found out on previous nights out so this woman had a small baby with her and I took a guess that she was around 28. I did check up later to discover that she was 31 so I was three years out not too bad there and always a fun game to play except that you don’t always get to know if you were right or not!
Yesterday such a stunner came into the stop that as hard as I tried I could not keep my eyes off her yet at the same time not just stand there staring, trying to guess her age is difficult she is certainly younger than I am and I do know where her grandmother lives so if I ever wanted to become a stalker I have a head start

I was watching American Idol Friday night and it is very different to the British version, in fact I would say that it looks a lot harder and the contestants have to do a lot more to get selected. The episode that they showed was a few weeks old and they were still narrowing everyone down to the last 32 so I will have to make sure that I catch the next episode. Saturday night is always “Charmed” night or at least it is now that I can pick up channel five and that is the only terrestrial channel in the UK that shows it and three lovely ladies (especially Alyssa Milano).

Enough about my sex mad mind, a few months ago now I mentioned an alcohol free bar which had opened in Carmarthen called “The Vibe” and I said then that I thought it was an ill thought out idea that someone with very little business sense but money who thought it would be a good idea well the alcohol free bar is now selling alcohol as the owner was unable to afford to run the place for children and has had to open it as a adult bar. She has promised to skim some of the profits and set them aside so that she can open up another place in the future for children. The amount of free advertising she has had from the local paper in regards to the problems she has experienced with trying to keep the place open would not have harmed her new venture so maybe she does have a little more business sense than I gave her credit for.

I real enjoyed “The Last Samurai” which I saw last night and it is a DVD that I will get for my collection. Only Stephen managed to make it to the cinema last night so I don’t know what happened to the rest of the (insert cool sounding name such as Scoobies) but still a fantastic film and as I have said before I really should make more of an effort to go to the cinema more often as it is only a few doors down from where I live.

Well my holiday to Spain has been booked so no backing out of it now, only got to wait until the start of July which will be here soon enough.

Off into work now, not sure if the road will be clear enough to actually get in and I am have not really made my mind up as to whether I want to be able to get in as I know one woman will give me grief about her bed not being delivered and I will not get away with using the flood as an excuse.

It seems that these computers in the library are more often than not unable to connect to the internet as there is something wrong with the connection and asking the library staff here for an explanation is a waste of time as I might get a better response if I spoke to the wall.
I went into work this morning to find that the road was still flooded and therefore impassable and just happened to arrive and saw Dot on the side of the road so we waited for the manager to turn up and she told us to go home. I can guarantee that if the water has not subsided by tomorrow the company and area manager would have formed a plan of action so I am expecting to have to travel to either the Swansea or Bridgend store for the weekend.

When the store does finally reopen there are going to be some rather irate customers who were expecting goods that have either not turned up or were taken back when the shop was closed so that will be fun.

Instead of working I went up to Llanelli with my mother to do some shopping at ASDA and it also gave me the chance to catch up with Keith who never works when I make my normal visits up on Sundays. The only problem with going to ASDA is that I spent money and am afraid got two DVD’s for my collection, they were both old films and therefore cheap but alas I slipped and bought them.

Tonight I will be going to see “The Last Samurai” at the local cinema and also hope to get some more work done on my site and the new contents that I rabbit on about every couple of months an then fail to deliver.

*News Flash*
Well a lovely journey up to my mother’s house today as the river Tywi in Carmarthen has burst its banks and flooded a lot of the roads. As I drove past work I noticed that they had closed and put sand bags outside. The last time there was a flood like this was back in 1987 when loads of businesses in Pensarn were flooded. So I was diverted to other roads and do wonder if there will be work tomorrow I would hate for the shop to flood but depending on what time they closed today and whether they received a delivery from the Cardiff tomorrow could be a day filled with customers complaining about not having there goods.

***

At the start of this year I said that I wanted to do more travelling and it looks like 2004 will be a good year for doing that, okay I may not be getting as far away as I would like to but it looks like I will be going on holiday to Spain in July. I will talk more about this closer to the date and once it has been booked. I have still not heard anything back about the weekend away but am hoping to hear about that in the next couple of weeks so that I can make sure I can get the time off work and also give everyone else the opportunity to book the time off.

The bed clear out has been going well with some of the more expensive beds going and once I get some bags I can wrap up the beds and get them delivered out to the customers and that will make the department look a lot emptier and hopefully create a sense of urgency which would help sell the more expensive beds and what headboards we have left. I only wish I had the time to spend doing all the little jobs I have and it does not look like this week will see me have the opportunity to do this as the assistant manager is away and things always seem to be a little tense when he is away. Enough about that rant and I have decided that in future I will not rant about work on this site as there is always the risk that someone will read it that should not.

I don’t know why but I am feeling very lethargic at the moment and generally feel tired from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed. There is so much more I want to get done on this site but it seems whenever I sit down at the computer something else takes priority and it is the same thing when I sit down to write emails.

No quiz last night because of the lack of interest for it but the pub is looking at advertising it again and getting it back on which could cause me a little problem as channel five is currently showing the latest series of CSI so a dilemma do I watch the programme or go to the quiz?

The Action Group has finally be disbanded and the money we had raised will be split between the school and the place we used to hold our meetings, just before Christmas I posted that the group had been saved but since then there has been no further progress so a meeting was called last Wednesday to close everything down - I did not bother to go as I knew I would start arguing over where the money should go but that is all over now and maybe as the group was already dead it did not matter.

Another year and another series of “I’m a celebrity… Get me out of here!” has hit our screens and it really is painful to watch those non-entities hope to jump on to the second chance wagon, which in the past has given pervious participants of the show a second chance at fame. I think it is this alternative motive that makes me less interested in watching this series.

On Thursday I went out for a meal with the people from work as Becky is leaving next week and everyone thought it would be nice to treat her to a meal. That would have been okay except for the fact that Christine thought that each of us having to pay £20 each was a little steep. Once I heard that I did some calculations and out of everyone who went she was the person who had the most expensive meal and therefore paid the least towards Becky’s meal - annoying or what?

On Friday they were expecting a visit from some important people from head office so as always it was like a mad rush making sure everything was as it should be and as always this visit never happened. I was however told by the area manager to clear all the beds off display, which I think is rather strange and stupid as all the “bedroom departments” are closing down in South Wales and we have a massive amount of bed stock in our Cardiff distribution centre so I have no idea what will happen to this stock afterwards. I should not think too much about that as I only have about three weeks to clear all my shop floor models. The clear out has gotten off to a good start with most of the cheaper beds being sold yesterday as I expected them to as the people around these parts love to get things as cheap as possible and my biggest concern was always selling off what I call the “premier range” beds which even after being brought right down in price they still start off at over the £600 mark.
Maybe when the area manager comes down in two weeks he will further reduce any stocks I have left but I am hoping this will not be the case.
